Participants are then invited to compare their self-categorization results with actual research findings from my studies on racial identification online. We end the hour with discussing how to exercise our agency to impact digital culture and deepen personal understandings towards racial justice.

Theodora Skeadas: How to run for political office (workshop)

Hi, everyone! My name is Theodora (Theo) Skeadas, and I would like to help you run for public office, or manage the campaign of someone else who is running. I have managed two political campaigns, and advised several others, and the experiences have taught me that no one succeeds in a campaign by working alone. It really does take a village – campaign staff, volunteers, community members, friends, and family. Further, the work of a campaign builds community. It forges relationships and fosters policy discussion, therein strengthening social capital within towns, cities, and states.

Today, however, it seems that building community is a dauntingly impossible challenge. In managing a political campaign, I learned that the campaign process is integral to community-building efforts. Recognizing this relationship, I sought to help lower the barriers to entry for political campaigning. Therefore, in an effort to make the political campaign process more accessible, I am leading a workshop that will teach you exactly how to manage a campaign.

Engaging your community is important work, and I want to see you succeed! I hope you will join me for this workshop. All attendees will receive campaign manuals post-training.
